Artist Boat is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness and preservation of coastal margins and the marine environment through the disciplines of the sciences and the arts. Although we are located on Galveston Island, Artist Boat has been serving Independent School Districts all over the Houston-Galveston Region through on-site Habitat Restoration Adventures. These adventures are free programs which allow K through Grey participants to engage in a restoration planting activity while learning about the ecosystems and wildlife that inhabit coastal areas and to care for the ecosystems through stewardship work. We have had incredible success in our past dune restoration programs and have the support and participation of several schools in the Anahuac Independent School District.
Artist Boat is currently applying for the Gulf of Mexico Foundation Community-based Restoration Program to restore more dune habitat along Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula. We are seeking partners and support from Galveston County and officials who oversee Bolivar Peninsula projects. Our deadline for the grant is at the end of the month, so I would be looking to speak with some very soon about this project.
