(Mar-27-2012) My Mother’s Day present from 2010 has lived in the living room for 2 years. It finally made it’s way out to the yard where the Purple Martins can find it easily and take up residence. Unfortunately, the sparrows found it first and have nested in the bottom two apartments. I posted this dilemma on the Bolivar blog, and have been assured the Purple Martins will indeed take over and run the sparrows off. Last weekend, without one moment of remorse, we actually took the bird house down and removed all the nesting composed by the sparrows. So every day I watch, awaiting the take over. Does anybody know where to find those gourds that we know the martins will inhabit? Does anyone know of another way to get rid of the sparrows?
GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
