Dr Seuss once said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” And it only takes one devoted person to put a plan in motion. Charlotte Stirling spearheaded a pilot recycling program here on Bolivar. She reached out to friend, Casey Winslow, a Beaumont resident and Bolivar homeowner, to be a part of a group of dedicated recycling advocates. They are beginning with plastic water bottles. Receptacles are located in two Crystal Beach business locations: Sweat Fitness and Latitude 29.2 Surf Shop. They are spreading the word to bring your plastic water bottles to the receptacles during business hours, crush them and deposit them for recycling. If all goes well, the recycling program will be expanded to other items like aluminum cans, glass, cardboard, and more. “We will watch this for a month or two and see how well it is working,” said Winslow. Help the efforts and stop by to contribute to bettering our peninsula.
