Sand Surprises

(May-8-2012) Do you know how fun it is to find things on the beach? A few weeks ago when I was taking my walk, by myself, the beach was deserted and I came across a nearly perfect unbroken sand dollar. I shrieked. What’s that saying? If a tree falls in the forest, does anybody hear it? Anyway, a bit embarrassed at screaming out loud, I looked around really quickly to see if anyone had heard me, thank goodness, no one was around.

Okay, as happens more often than not, I’ve kind of side tracked … because this little “bucket” is about finding unusual things on the beach. We’ve included a picture. You’ll see a purple flag, a plastic bug, and a headless doll (my sister-in-law told me it’s from a McDonald’s Happy Meal). Oh, I think one of the most eccentric things I’ve found so far is the Barbie leg. Yep, just one. As I walked along, I was hoping to find the rest of her, but no. Maybe another time, and of course, there are some things you just don’t want to touch – we won’t mention those. My husband came home the other day with a toothbrush he had found. Unusual, yes, but … I threw it away.
Happy hunting beach combers!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
