4th of July weekend – this has been one of the best in a long time! This year, we’ve actually had (almost) the whole family with us, plus some we just consider family. I think, at one point, we had over 14 people sleeping here. It’s been like musical beds since last Thursday, I have no idea where everyone sleeps in the rest of the house. I just know PawPaw and I take a right when we enter the house and that’s our sleeping quarters. Everyone else is pretty much on their own.
We’ve set up at the beach every day. That’s with the canopy, coolers, numerous chairs, beach toys, a table for games like dominoes or scrabble, washers and snacks galore. By Sunday, the waves picked up and we couldn’t take the kayaks, so the smaller grandkids rode them out in the front yard.
We have ‘set up’ and ‘tear down’ mastered to a science. I think we could do it in our sleep. We’ve had some rousing games of washers to say the least. Four of our family entered and played in Jordan’s 6th Annual 4th of July Washer’s Tournament on Saturday. So from noon to 4 or 5, our kids “stayed alive.”
We found out about another tournament to be held down by Monkhouse on Sunday at 2 pm. Grandkids, Emma and Grant, entered as team ‘Sibling Rivalry’, along with their cousin and a friend, Christopher and Zay. We got the call several hours later that Emma and Grant were in the finals, so we jumped in the jeep to head down to see them WIN! Grand Champions took $180.
Too bad there’s not a scholarship for washers. Only in Texas, huh?
