Depending on the timing of the ferry is a shot in the dark if you ask me. I needed to make a 7 am flight out of Hobby the other morning and the most practical (did I say “practical”) way is across the ferry and up I-45. I looked online to see the ferry schedule. It appeared I would need to catch the 4:20 am ferry in order to make it to the airport on time. Not absolutely trusting the online schedule, I decided to call the ferry office. A very pleasant woman answered and assured me there was indeed a 4:20 ferry.
Not completely trusting my alarm clock either, I also set my cell phone alarm for 3:15. I was startled awake by a nightmare that it was already 5 am, relieved when I opened my eyes to find that it was only 1 am. Whew, a whole 2+ hours left to snooze. Instead, I awoke at 3 and decided to start my journey. I was out the door by 3:45 am, thinking I would have plenty of time to make it to the ferry. Well, let me tell you, there were 5 cars, I was #4, and the boat tooted his horn as I was boarding, 4:18 am and that boat was on its way back to Galveston.
Despite the fog on I-45, I made it to the airport with exactly an hour to spare. Thinking the fog would delay my flight, I left my car unlocked and the keys in the car for my husband who was flying into Hobby later that day. Then, I fretted all day whether the car would be there or not when he got to the airport. But it was, whew!
“Living on the edge?” Exactly what I DON’T do 99% of the time, as a retiree, living “the life” on the beach!
