Course Superintendent Mike Mitchell’s two birdies and a clutch 6 foot par saving putt at the end of the round earned him a first place tie with Mike VanZandt at 3-over par Tuesday afternoon on the Par 3 Course. Keeping his current driver in his bag, and with the driver formally known as “Blue Thunder” peacefully resting in the Gulf of Mexico, Mitchell placed first for the first time since the inception of the twice weekly Par-3 event. Mitchell’s finish was even more impressive considering the strength of the field. He bested long-hitting Michael Comeaux, solid Shannon O’Brien, super senior Dennis Whitmer, rising star David Buchanan and one time winner Aaron Comeaux.
If you see Mike Mitchell, congratulate him on his win, but more importantly, please thank him for his herculean efforts in keeping our Community Golf Course open and playable. It’s a struggle and Mike maintains the 54 acre course pretty much by himself. Thanks Mike. You are appreciated even when your golf game isn’t.
